Home Ground for KPS
Keith Panel Systems commissioned Ombrae Studios to create a facade treatment for their new factory building in Burnaby that could deliver a design that was recognizable from a distance to mark the factory location and create a strong and iconic branding for KPS. The design program was conceived to carry the owner’s idea to help KPS clients that visit the factory facility see an Ombrae treatment up close and examine it intimately.
The design program had two basic goals to fulfill: create a strong and recognizable brand touchpoint with the KPS logo within the design, and include a technical solution that provides strategic shading during summer months for the exposed office windows on the south and western elevations. The end result successfully satisfies both needs and provided a truly impressive example of the Ombrae system working to its full potential.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITY
Sun Path Inspiration
As a starting point of the input artwork, Ombrae Studios conducted a sun path analysis on the building model, with relation to the seasonal changes of the sun path over the site. Thinking of the artwork mural as a direct response to this path, and how the Ombrae input artwork might act as a solar shading screen, the artwork in front of the windows is tuned to provide this maximum shading during the hot afternoons of the summer months.
