ANZ Bank is a major institution in the Australian and New Zealand retail banking industry, with a reach extending to an additional 34 markets globally. Ombrae Studios was asked to solve a unique design challenge for a specific branch located in Auckland, NZ: how to maintain the natural lighting and open concept design featuring large exterior windows, while providing relative privacy for those inside. Could the solution to this problem include aesthetic aspects, being artistic in nature but also conforming to ANZ’s strict corporate brand standards?
Collaborating closely with ASC Architects, Ombre Studios developed a custom art installation within the window that allowed daylight into the space, while at night transforming the window into a surface that glows with ANZ's spot colour Pantone blues. The artwork depicts a blowing lotus leaf pattern inspired by abstracting the existing ANZ logo, with a backdrop of subtle gradation. The final result provides pleasing aesthetic functionality on both sides of the glass, at any time of day or night.
