Ombrae Studios’ partner in Mexico, Astyl, brought this project forward. It is the largest Ombrae installation in the Western Hemisphere to-date. Showcenter was an opportunity for the clients and stakeholders to iconically brand and signify the location of their building. The Ombrae facade needed to bridge the aesthetic and the technical by the incorporation of perforated panels to get the project within the desired budget parameters. Our design concept saw the undulating rock formations of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountainscape as the driving influence for the image design that wraps the building. These undulating forms are also a subtle reference to sound waves, evocative of the interior programming of the building as a concert venue for live music and theatre. The final outcome is a fantastic abstraction of the mountain scene that hovers in the distance behind the complex and creates visually dynamic shifts, as the surface changes from negative to positive depending on the angle of view.

DESIGN TO BUDGET
The advantage of designing the exterior coverage area in tandem with the actual input artwork is that Ombrae Studios can create a fully considered design solution that works with an available area while also meeting a specified budget. In this case, the original artwork was created for the entire facade, and then high profile areas were designated as Ombrae, while other parts of the elevation that are less visible from the street have been specified as custom perforated panels. The final result on the wall is a very customized solution.
