Located in central San Francisco, the new CPMC hospital at the Van Ness and Geary Campus is a major $1B+ LEED Certified project providing advanced and emergency care for the area. Ombrae Studios was commissioned to provide a mural feature wall for an ambulance ER drop-off and underground parking tunnel connecting Geary and Post streets. Our client required that the project be viewable from the two separate exterior entrances into the facility. The two-view solution created by Ombrae involved panels at either end of the mural optimized for both of the directional views.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITY
The Ombrae coverage area consists of an impressive 180ft mural featuring a client-provided aerial panoramic photo of the iconic skyline, rendered in high resolution OpticalTiles™ (⅜" or 10mm diameter). The pixels are specially programmed to display a positive image despite being uplit - an opposite scheme to our more common down-lighting programs. As a reflected light technology, Ombrae is always best when considered in context with surrounding lighting conditions. The end result is a stunningly compelling vista of the entire San Francisco skyline and surrounding bridges.
