Ombrae Studios worked closely with the owner, architect, manufacturer, and general contractor on this landmark project at the river's edge in Richmond. The International Trade Center, is a mixed-use commercial development with three major elevations, each of which was designated to have an Ombrae mural covering all four levels of the above-grade parking garage. This project provided Ombrae the chance to work out a themed image design with the client that reflects the surrounding regional context along the Fraser River, within sight of the Pacific Ocean, and on the flight path to Vancouver International Airport.
Our design team worked to demonstrate through multiple design iterations the unique opportunity this project provided by conceiving of custom artwork for each elevation that signified and integrated a defining concept of River, Ocean, and Sky.

CUSTOMIZED COVERAGE
Ombrae Studios was additionally tasked with proposing a 60% Ombrae coverage across the three elevations, mixing Ombrae with an off-the-shelf perforated panel for value engineering considerations. The panel distribution was carefully considered in relation to the site's context: key lines of site from both pedestrian and vehicle corridors. Additional factors included the requirements from the City of Richmond, to occlude some of the interior light in the parking garage interior from bleeding out into the street along Bridgeport Rd, a major thoroughfare in the city. We addressed this by prioritizing Ombrae panel coverage densely on this elevation, on the right side accounting for oncoming traffic.
