Langley Memorial Hospital ER

Langley, BC Canada

Scenic Landscape as Privacy Screen

The existing Langley Memorial Hospital was long overdue for an expanded emergency department to better serve the growing surrounding community. KRA specified Ombrae panels as a special focal point of a prominent elevation facing the main access street to the west. Ombrae provides the dual benefit of customizable artwork as a decorative placemaking marker for the local community, while also acting as a privacy screen for sensative medical emergy drop-offs at the ER.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITY

Client Collaboration

The material story for this Ombrae privacy screen on the emergency room drop-off focuses on evoking a sense of place through an artistic depiction of the Fraser River. As the longest river in British Columbia, it bears tremendous historical significance to the Township of Langley and to the Stó:lō First Nations dating back thousands of years. More specific to Langley Memorial Hospital, it is a chance to showcase original photographic work of LMH Emergency Registered Nurse Jen Newman. On a broader level, it is a celebration of the daily contributions made by first responders in the healthcare profession at large.
