Iconic Sense of Place

Ombrae Studies worked closely with Shape Properties to create this signature exterior design for Brentwood Mall's mixed-use development in this fast-growing area of Burnaby. This ambitious $2.5B project aims to be “the new heart of Metro Vancouver” as a prototypical example of transit-oriented development.

By identifying key sight-lines from pedestrian and elevated transit rail line, Ombrae Studios, in partnership with Keith Panel Systems, customized targeted treatment areas that would give Ombrae maximum visibility. This allows less visible regions of the massive curved facade to be clad with aluminum composite material, while a randomized fade pattern brings Ombrae into focus on the primary south and north corners. Ombrae’s visually dynamic surface anchors an iconic sense of place within the local community and surrounding neighbourhoods.
